An odyssey from “namaste” to “good morning”

Since 1997 I have been searching for the true meaning of the term “GLOBALISATION”.

I have read so much theory, listened so many lectures, write so many essays and also attend so many seminars in this topic. But nothing could give me a sense of satisfaction, because all are based on empty theory, and does not have any practical influence on me. This term was just like the electromagnetic field theory (EMFT), where nothing is visualized……

Finally my long and desperate search came to an end at NIT-B. Once the well wishes such as good morning, good night were the subjects of general knowledge for us. And we were getting those terms by heart to click the competitive exam. Now it becomes the catchphrase, and an absolute buzzword in NIT-B. In the morning the sweet voice of good morning gives me the sense of inexplicable feeling. In my school days I have been taught to show respect to the teachers by NAMASTE, which not only includes the voice but also a humble gesture and posture. But here the scenario is completely different one. This NAMASTE culture is gone to hell. It is viewed as an outdated culture. And those who are following this are being treated like an uneducated alien person. For the sake of virtual, social grandeur I follow this culture blindly. I don’t wish to think upon this matter “whether it is good or bad”. Because I know it will be a simple wastage of time and energy. What ever it may be, When I listen good morning, my subconscious mind says “hey dude this is the practical aspect of the globalization, now you become a part of this.” Since my heart does not support this cultural theory. Ha Ha Ha ……… so it brings a strong dilemma between my mind and heart. As a simple human being of flesh and blood I am forced to go along with the system .In every corner of the NIT-B campus I have been hearing those terms and it seems that all the true successors of BRITISH legacy are gathered here. Definitely the students of this NIT are the true devotees of the British masters. Whatever it may be, my change in attitude shows only the flexibility of my behavioral pattern. It is part of my style not my principle. I never change my principle unless it has been proved wrong with solid truthful justification. I don’t wish to be a victim of this cultural evolution/pollution/degradation. This is nothing but a momentary strategic change in my behavior in order to cope with the situation. After all it’s my pure personal view.

Despite this incompatible environment, I can get a sense of déjà vu of familiarity. Because besides odisha, this is the place where I can able to communicate with people very easily. For the first time in my whole life career I got an opportunity to speak in my national language, though I cannot speak it fluently but able to convey the information.

This is the only lingua franca through which I can communicate with people. In the whole DC circuit I am the only person come out side from the Hindi heartland.

Sometimes my weird way of talking Hindi make people laugh. But it doesn’t bother me, instead I am enjoying it, because unlike others I am a mere learner in this linguistic field not a master. For me speaking of this language give me sense of national identity as well as a good feeling. Because, besides my mother tongue I love this language most.

After all I confess that it is one of the most…. most….. most….. happiest moment of my student career. It is the paradigm shift of my life style, because I have got a homogeneous group as my classmate. In this friendly atmosphere I have forget the sorrow of gate-2009 debacle and not getting hostel. Apart from this bonhomie the natural beauty of BHOPAL make an ecstatic environment for me. Though I am staying thousand miles away from my home, still I never feel alienated, because in this fast communication era the physical distance never makes a person alienated but shortage of good friends makes so. But here I have good friends of beautiful personalities.

Finally I would like to thankkkkk alok for architecting this global stage in the form of DC 9/11 NIT-B blog, where member of this DC community can share their view and opinion..
